Model Portfolio
This module allows you to construct, adjust, and track various model portfolios—each with its own benchmarks, strategies, and holdings.
1. Create or Rename the Model Portfolio
- Rename Model Portfolio: Enter a clear, descriptive name for your portfolio (e.g., “GM Model Portfolio” or “Growth Strategy 2024”).
- Reference Currency: Specify the currency you want the portfolio’s performance and allocations to be reported (e.g., USD).
- Description: Add any notes explaining the portfolio’s strategy, goals, or constraints.
2. Set Parameters & Constraints
- Research Budget: (Optional) Indicate how much you allocate for research costs or fees.
- Benchmark & Benchmark Since: Choose a benchmark index or fund, and optionally note the date from which you want to start tracking its performance.
- Minimum Credit Rating: Set it here if the model requires holdings to meet a certain credit threshold (e.g., “A” rated bonds or better).
- Tracking Level: This field defines how closely the portfolio should mirror its benchmark (depending on your strategy).
- Transaction Booking Mode: Specify how transactions are booked (e.g., actual trades vs. hypothetical).
- Strategy: Select from custom or predefined strategies (e.g., “Long Only,” “Balance Growth,” or “None” if it’s a custom approach).
- Currency Hedging: If applicable, choose how to handle currency exposure (e.g., partial hedge, full hedge, or no hedge).
- Reallocations per Year & Next Reallocation: Indicate how often (e.g., quarterly, annually) you plan to rebalance or reallocate assets, and the next upcoming date.
3. Import or Build the Portfolio
- Import Model Portfolio Securities: Click Select a file… to upload a CSV containing the securities you want in this model, along with their allocations or weights.
- If unsure about the file layout, select Learn How to see the required format or Export Model Portfolio Securities: CSV for a template.
- Monthly Price History: (Optional) Upload a historical price file for these securities to track backtested or historical performance.
- Remove Model History if you want to clear previously imported data.
4. Add or Edit Securities Manually
- Model Version Date: Record the date of this portfolio version for tracking changes over time.
- Add Security: Type the name or ticker of the security you want to include and choose it from the search results.
- Ask AI button: Use artificial intelligence to suggest new securities (based on your criteria).
- Universe List / Import list: You can select securities from a predefined “universe” or bulk‑import them.
- Allocation %: Enter the percentage you want to allocate to each security. The Total Allocated bar updates in real-time to ensure your allocations sum up correctly (e.g., 100% if fully allocated).
5. Review & Finalise
- Portfolio Table: Here, you’ll see each holding’s Asset Class, Country, Industry, ISIN, Market Place, Currency, Last Price, and your chosen Allocation %.
- Total Allocated: Verify the percentage allocated vs. your target. You can keep the portfolio partially allocated if desired or aim for a full 100%.
- Adjust or remove holdings as needed. Save your changes once everything is in order.
6. Ongoing Management
- Rebalancing: On the scheduled reallocation date (or whenever you choose), revisit the portfolio, adjust allocations, and review performance.
- Performance Tracking: If you’ve imported monthly price data or tied the portfolio to real‑time market feeds, InvestGlass can generate performance analytics and metrics.
- Multiple Versions: Keep track of different model versions (e.g., v1, v2) to see how the model evolves over time.
